The starting point for this curious, pictorial pastiche of old and relatively new, of Gothic woodblock printing and New Deal socialist painting, began with a review of Lorenzetti's fresco, Allegory of Good and Bad Government, in the Palazzo Pubblico, Siena. Tyranny sits at the centre of Bad Government. The original of A Final Trump contained the labelled Gothic figures of Iniquitas, Crudelitas and others. However, I left these out in favour of labelling Trump the Tyrant via his orb of dubious magnitude in one hand and a golf club for a sceptre in the other. Superbia, although untitled, is the bare-breasted maiden viewing herself in the mirror while Avarice on Trump's right is shown with her large money bag. (Edition of three ink prints on Canson canvas: overall size with framing margin 33 x 43 cm: print size 30 x 40 cm.)
